ABOUT

“Spread joy, no matter where you are. As a family, it’s our constant emphasis. Real fulfillment lies in getting outside of ourselves.”

– Eric Wood

Eric Wood is a former center for the Buffalo Bills and nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016. Eric played for nearly nine years with the Bills, until a dangerous neck injury forced him to withdraw from professional football in 2018.

Always loving a challenge, Eric has since approached his post-football career transition with enthusiasm, bringing his wisdom of years of experience on the field to broadcast media and public speaking. He currently engages with fans as a color commentator for the Buffalo Bills Radio Network. On other platforms, fans can access Eric’s lively commentary in his online sports column for The Athletic, where his intelligence as a center informs his in-depth analysis of the game.

Eric also serves as a charismatic keynote speaker at special events, delivering impactful speeches on diverse topics such as leadership, being a Christian father and athlete, and reaching one’s highest potential.

For an up close and personal perspective into his career transition, Eric hosts a podcast, What’s Next With Eric Wood, with a new guest interview every episode.

In 2014, Eric formed the Eric Wood Fund, inspired by his brother Evan Wood, who passed away from complications stemming from cerebral palsy as a child. The Eric Wood Fund helps provide chronically ill children and their families with care, support, resources, and encouragement to keep them going.

Formally recognizing Eric’s deep dedication to both football and his community, the Buffalo Bills nominated him for the 2015 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.

Gretchen Geitter, vice president of community relations for the Bills, exclaimed that “Eric Wood is one of the most giving people I know… He’s been blessed with a gift as an amazing football player, and the blessing to us is that he has taken that gift and has shared it through his community service, and he does that through the Buffalo Bills and through his own foundation. The way he gives is so genuine and authentic, it’s just part of his character.”

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Eric grew up playing virtually every sport imaginable. But it was in football where he shined the brightest, with a passion and discipline that led to an impressive college career.

He played 49 consecutive starts as the center for the Louisville Cardinals, the second longest in Louisville’s history—all while being a star student. From there, it was straight to the NFL, where he was drafted in the first round in 2009.
